Our Team

Jennifer Orange

Professor

Jennifer Orange is an Assistant Professor at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is also a lawyer and human rights mediator and adjudicator. She conducts research on how human rights are presented by cultural institutions like museums and sports organizations. Jennifer loves sports! She played Fastpitch Softball for the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Toronto and was an assistant coach for the University of Toronto Fastpitch team.

Alison Hanson

Research Assistant

Alison is a lawyer and graduate from the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University. Prior to attending law school, she worked with the Computer Science Department at the University of Waterloo and has experience doing web development and design for numerous small businesses. She is passionate about combining her knowledge and understanding of the Canadian legal system with her technological experience to address gaps in the Canadian legal system and improve access to justice. Alison played varsity women’s hockey for the University of Waterloo during her undergraduate studies and continues to coach and play recreationally.

Raiyan Rahman

Research Assistant

Raiyan Rahman is an MSc graduate of Computer Science at Toronto Metropolitan University, as part of the Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems Lab. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Software Engineering from the University of Toronto. His research interests lie in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. Raiyan loves to play soccer, volleyball, and badminton recreationally.

Avani Joshi

Research Assistant

Avani is a second year JD  student at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University. Prior to attending law school, she worked for a personal injury law firm in North York as a legal assistant and at Daimler Truck Financial Services In-house Counsel as a legal intern. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto with a double major in Criminology and Sociology and a minor in Forensic Science. She is passionate about advancing access to justice and working to ensure that people of all ages know and understand their legal rights. Avani played soccer and volleyball in high school and has competitively danced throughout high school and undergrad.

Samantha Shapero

Research Assistant

Samantha is a second-year JD student at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University. Before attending law school, she retrieved her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. Samantha is excited to use her interest in technology and media to develop a platform that empowers young girls and helps educate them on their rights concerning the Canadian legal system. Samantha played several sports throughout her lower and upper secondary education including basketball, track and field and competitive dance. She is looking forward to combining her love of sports with her passion for legal research and education. 

Ruby Asgedome

Research Assistant

Ruby is a third-year law student at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University. Before starting her legal journey, she earned a degree in Journalism with minors in Politics and History and went on to work in marketing and advertising. Her time in the communications world taught her the power of storytelling, something she now channels into her passion for advocacy and equity. Ruby is deeply committed to using the law to uplift and empower marginalized communities. When she’s not studying, she loves spending her time reading, going for long walks, and swimming to unwind and recharge.
